Compare Agnos

Last updated 17 October 2026

Agnos is a Windows app, made by Gidion, that cleans text-based PDFs, Office files and web pages on your own PC before they go into Custom GPTs, NotebookLM, Claude Projects, Copilot, a RAG index or training data. It removes clutter with named rules and shows what it removed and why. If your documents are scans, you work on a Mac or Linux, or you are building a pipeline in code, one of the tools below is the better fit, and several of them are free.

Gidion makes Agnos and wrote these pages, so read them with that in mind. Each one takes what it says about the other tool from that tool’s own website, documentation, package page or code, checked on 17 October 2026, and links every source. Each one also says when the other tool is the better choice and, where it helps, how to use the two together.

Agnos vs DoclingDocling, the free, open-source converter that IBM Research started, is the better pick if you write code, have scans or complex tables, or work on a Mac or Linux; Agnos cleans text-based files on Windows without code. Agnos vs LlamaParseLlamaParse, LlamaIndex’s cloud parsing service, is the better pick if you write code and your documents are scans, photos or pages full of complex tables and charts; Agnos cleans text-based files on your own Windows PC, with nothing uploaded. Agnos vs MarkerMarker, Datalab’s open-source converter, is the better pick for PDFs with scans, complex tables or equations, and for pipelines on a Mac or a GPU server; Agnos cleans mixed folders of text-based files on Windows, without Python. Agnos vs MarkItDownMarkItDown, Microsoft’s free, open-source Python tool, is the better pick if you write code and want many kinds of file turned into Markdown, scans included through add-ons; Agnos takes the clutter out without code and shows what it removed. Agnos vs rag-scrubberrag-scrubber, a small, free Python library, is the better pick if you write Python and already pull the text out of your PDFs page by page; Agnos cleans folders of text-based files on Windows without code and shows what it removed. Agnos vs UnstructuredUnstructured, an open-source Python library with hosted products, is the better pick for OCR, more file types and document pipelines on servers or in the cloud; Agnos cleans text-based files on your Windows PC, with no code and nothing uploaded.

What Agnos doesn’t do

Agnos has no OCR, so it does not read scans or photos of pages: a PDF needs a text layer. It refuses images, audio, video and archives, and old Office, Rich Text and OpenDocument files must be saved as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx first. It runs only on 64-bit Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) and Windows 11, and its command line is not in the Microsoft Store version yet. The full list is in What Agnos doesn’t do.

If none of that rules it out, you can try everything in Pro free for 14 days, with no card, and then pay once: see Pricing and the download page.
